Profile
North Shore Art League is a nonprofit arts organization founded in 1924 that enriches the community through comprehensive art education and exhibitions. The League operates from the historic Winnetka Community House, featuring a beautiful main studio with a 60-foot skylight that provides ideal natural lighting for artistic work.
The organization offers year-round art classes for both adults and youth in a variety of media including oil painting, watercolor, pastels, colored pencil, pen and ink, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, and encaustic. Classes are available at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. The League’s premiere printmaking program provides fully-equipped facilities for students to explore various print techniques. Additionally, the Mal Poland Studio offers specialized ceramics programming.
Youth programming includes regular art classes during the school year and popular summer art camps that run weekly, featuring daily projects in drawing, painting, mixed media, and other creative techniques. Each week of camp introduces new projects with no repeats, ensuring fresh experiences for returning campers.
The League hosts numerous art exhibitions throughout the year, including the annual Members’ Show, themed exhibits like “Water!” and “Inspired by…”, the inchworks show, and solo artist exhibitions. The organization also sponsors the annual Art in the Village juried fine arts fair held at Hubbard Woods Park in Winnetka.
Workshops with visiting artists provide opportunities for concentrated learning in specialized techniques. The League fosters a vibrant community where artists of all ages can connect, share their passion for creativity, and develop their skills in a supportive and inspiring environment.
