Profile
Bucktown Music is a community-focused, family-owned and operated music school that has been serving Chicago since 2008, committed to sharing the joy and foundations of music with students of all ages and abilities. The school fosters a dynamic music community where each member of the dedicated staff knows firsthand how music can spark joy, improve cognitive skills, and promote self-expression.
The school offers comprehensive private music lessons for children age 6 and older through adults in voice, guitar, bass, violin, piano, drums, percussion, ukulele, banjo, viola, and woodwinds. Lessons are based on nationally recognized study materials while being 100% personalized to fit each student’s individual needs, learning style, and what they desire to learn. The vocal program guides students on their journey of expression and discovery with healthy technique. Piano instruction builds a strong musical foundation perfect for learning to read music. Guitar and ukulele lessons teach across genres, equipping students to play solo or in groups. Drum lessons cultivate precise rhythm and strong music fundamentals through energetic instruction.
For younger children, Bucktown Music is an award-winning Kindermusik studio, recognized by Kindermusik International as one of the top 5% of all Kindermusik programs worldwide. They offer a variety of different Kindermusik classes for newborns to 5-year-olds, specifically designed to fit each developmental stage. These classes teach parents how to use music for routines and rituals, how music and movement activities help develop growing brains and systems, how music can help read and respond to children’s needs, and how to use music to boost social-emotional development.
Group classes are available including Playful Pianists for ages 4-6, Mini Maestros for ages 3-4, and Group Guitar for ages 7 and up. The school also provides programming for schools, childcare centers, parks, and daycares, bringing music education directly to community locations.
Bucktown Music teachers have extensive music degrees and experience teaching students of all ages and levels. They strive to build a love of music in each student and foster natural creativity in a reliable, challenging, and structured environment. The school offers three yearly recitals (historically held in the beautiful Fine Arts Building downtown) providing opportunities for students to showcase their hard work. Teachers provide music theory, ear training, and coaching for school auditions, helping students shine their brightest in audition processes.
The facility is conveniently located in the Bucktown neighborhood on Milwaukee Avenue, right off the Western Blue Line, with street parking available. Adult students are welcomed and many are either trying an instrument for the first time or are long-time musicians looking to improve their skills.
