Profile
The Prairie Center for the Arts, owned and operated by the Village of Schaumburg, serves as a premier performance venue in the northwest suburban area since opening in 1986. The Schaumburg Sings Summer Camp is part of the center’s Young Artists programming under the Schaumburg Choral Program, offering an exciting week-long summer experience for young singers.
This vocal camp provides students entering grades 3 and up with intensive choral training in a fun, engaging summer environment. The camp runs for one week in July, typically scheduled for July 14-18, and culminates in a live performance on the final day. Camp participants have the unique opportunity to audition for the Prelude ensemble’s fall season during the final performance, providing a pathway to continued choral education.
The Schaumburg Choral Program, of which this camp is a part, is a recreational and educational outlet for talented singers that includes multiple performing ensembles. The program focuses on singing technique, sight-singing skills including solfege and rhythm training, unison and multi-part singing, and developing a lifelong joy and love of singing. The camp environment allows students to explore the exciting world of choral music while making new friends who share similar interests.
Led by experienced music educators and choral directors, the camp provides professional instruction in a supportive atmosphere. The program connects to the broader Schaumburg Choral Program which includes Prelude (grades 3-6), Cantabile (grades 6 through high school), and adult ensembles, all of which rehearse and perform at the Prairie Center for the Arts.
The Prairie Center itself features a 425-seat intimate theater with exceptional sightlines and outstanding acoustics, with the furthest seat only 14 rows from the stage. The venue hosts a full season of entertainment including music, dance, and theater performances, as well as the free outdoor Summer Breeze Concert Series.
Camp participants benefit from the center’s commitment to arts education and the strong tradition of the Schaumburg Youth Arts Programs, which have served the community for decades. Families with multiple children enrolled in Schaumburg Youth Arts Programs receive discounts, and financial assistance and scholarships are available to ensure accessibility.
The camp provides an excellent introduction to choral singing for beginners while also challenging students with prior experience, all within the context of a prestigious community arts center dedicated to nurturing young talent in the performing arts.
