Profile
Keller’s Farmstand is a family-owned and operated farm with five generations of agricultural heritage, offering a seasonal destination experience across two active locations in the western suburbs of Chicago. The Oswego Farmstand at 2500 Johnson Road serves as the primary farm property where the family grows its crops and hosts its signature fall activities, while the Naperville Farmstand at 516 Knoch Knolls Road operates as an additional retail location for farm-fresh produce, flowers, and seasonal goods. A former Plainfield location has permanently closed. The farm is dedicated to growing high-quality flowers, sweet corn, vegetables, apples, and pumpkins, and operates on a seasonal schedule spanning spring, summer, and fall, with both locations temporarily closing for winter before reopening each spring.
The spring season at Keller’s Farmstand runs from late April through mid-June and transforms both the Oswego and Naperville locations into vibrant garden destinations. The farm’s greenhouses, which have been selling homegrown flowers for over 30 years, offer an extensive selection of premium hanging baskets, beautiful combination planters, geranium and succulent planters, window box arrangements, and trellis planters. The inventory includes over 250 varieties of specialty annuals such as impatiens, SunPatiens, Dragon Wing begonias, geraniums, and numerous Proven Winners selections, along with locally grown perennials, flats of bedding flowers, vegetable and herb plants, fruit plants, and an impressive collection of tomato varieties including over 40 options and numerous heirloom selections. Hot pepper enthusiasts will find varieties ranging from jalapeño and habanero to Carolina Reaper and ghost peppers. The farmstands also carry houseplants, premium potting soil, local honey, and gourmet food items including jams, pickles, pie fillings, salsas, popcorn, and salad dressings. Each spring, Keller’s hosts the Floral Face-Off, a fun interactive competition on Facebook and Instagram that runs from March through April and engages the community in voting on their favorite flower varieties.
Summer at Keller’s Farmstand brings the harvest season into full swing with the farm’s locally grown sweet corn, fresh vegetables, and a cut-your-own flower field where visitors can create their own bouquets from the farm’s blooming rows. Apple season begins in August at the Oswego orchard, where early varieties start ripening and are available for purchase at both farmstand locations. The farm grows more than 60 varieties of apples, and families can sign up for Apple Alerts by text to receive notifications when their favorite varieties become available for picking.
The fall season is by far the busiest and most celebrated time of year at Keller’s Farmstand, as the Oswego property transforms into a full-scale autumn destination. Apple picking runs from mid-August through October in the farm’s orchard, which has tripled in size with newly planted varieties. Families can stroll through the lush, leafy lanes of the orchard with Keller’s bags, selecting from dozens of crisp and juicy apple types suited for eating, baking, cooking, and cider making. The sprawling pumpkin patch offers a u-pick experience where visitors grab a wheelbarrow and head into the field to choose pumpkins of different colors, shapes, and sizes, each with a portion of the vine still attached for that fresh-from-the-field look. Prepicked pumpkins are also available.
On Saturdays and Sundays during the fall season, the Oswego farm hosts its popular Fall Festivities, a ticketed event that brings the property to life with a wide range of family activities. The festivities include a 12-acre corn maze themed with a new design each year, a two-acre grass maze, the Big Barn playhouse featuring multiple slides, giant farmers’ checkers, a tire stack for climbing, antique tractors for photo opportunities, and multiple kids’ play areas including a pirate ship, castle, and ark. Farm animals are present on the grounds, and a free wagon ride is available to all visitors. The concession stand serves apple cider donuts, gourmet popcorn, hot dogs, hot pretzels, nachos, rich and creamy fudge, kettle corn, and other seasonal treats. Face painting is available most weekends near the prepicked pumpkin patch for an additional fee. An online ticketing system manages entry to ensure a smooth experience, and all Fall Festivities tickets are required for admission and are nonrefundable. Children aged four and under enter free, while anyone five and older including adults must have a paid wristband. The corn maze takes approximately one hour to complete, and visitors are advised to begin by 5:00 p.m. as the festivities close at 6:00 p.m. During the summer, children ages five through twelve can earn free Fall Festivities wristbands through local library reading programs, bringing their current-year library coupon to the ticket booth for complimentary admission.
While Keller’s Farmstand does not formally host private birthday parties, families are welcome to celebrate birthdays at the Oswego farm during Fall Festivities weekends using the picnic tables available on a first-come, first-served basis within the farmland area. Each guest aged five and older requires a paid activity wristband, and outside food, drinks, and coolers are not permitted, though food and beverages are available for purchase at the concession stands. Parties are limited to a maximum of two hours, and no decorations, stereos, or speakers are allowed. The farm also operates a kitchen producing small-batch craft items including recently launched hot sauce varieties made from farm-grown peppers. E-gift cards are available for purchase online and make a popular gift for farm enthusiasts in the area. No pets or smoking of any kind are permitted on the farm property. The farm operates rain or shine during its open seasons, though specific outdoor activities may be temporarily paused during unsafe weather conditions.
