Board & Brush Creative Studio – Downers Grove

Board & Brush Creative Studio – Downers Grove brings instructor-led DIY woodworking and custom sign-making workshops to the heart of historic downtown Downers Grove, Illinois. Located at 5151 Main Street, just steps from the Downers Grove Main Street Metra commuter station, local boutiques, and family-friendly cafes, this inviting studio space is outfitted with large communal worktables, canvas aprons, woodworking tools, and walls lined with sample farmhouse, modern, and seasonal wood decor projects. The Downers Grove studio welcomes children, teens, parents, and multi-generational families from Downers Grove, Westmont, Clarendon Hills, Darien, Woodridge, and Lisle to roll up their sleeves and create personalized heirloom wood pieces from scratch.

While Board & Brush is widely known for its adult Pick Your Project workshops, the Downers Grove studio places a strong emphasis on youth and family programming through its Kids’ Parties, Teen Workshops, and all-ages Family Friendly Mini Project sessions. Designed for children ages 6 and older, youth and family workshops guide young makers step-by-step through the hands-on process of distressing, sanding, staining, stenciling, painting, and waxing raw pine wood boards. Because every stencil is pre-cut and customized ahead of the session—often featuring the child’s name, favorite sport, hobby, pet, monogram, or inspirational quote—children of all artistic skill levels walk away with a polished, gallery-worthy wooden sign, tray, keepsake box, or growth chart to display in their bedroom.

For families planning a creative celebration, Board & Brush Downers Grove hosts private Kids’ Birthday Parties, scout troop badge outings, youth sports team gatherings, and school spirit events. Every attendee selects their own personalized design from an extensive online gallery prior to the party, and the studio prepares all raw lumber, custom vinyl stencils, non-toxic acrylic paints, wood stains, sponges, and brushes in advance so caregivers do not have to worry about material prep or post-party cleanup. Instructors lead the group at an upbeat, kid-friendly pace that keeps young creators engaged while leaving plenty of time for cake, snacks, and opening gifts.

Families who prefer crafting at home or hosting an event at their own venue can also order pre-packaged DIY @Home Kits or book Bb Brought to You offsite group packages from the Downers Grove studio. With convenient street and deck parking in downtown Downers Grove and a hands-on curriculum that blends real woodworking with visual art, the studio offers a memorable screen-free creative outlet for western suburban families. Every workstation is stocked with child-safe water-based acrylic paints, foam brushes, aprons, and sanding sponges, and instructors remain close by to assist younger participants with stencil alignment and detail work. Caregivers appreciate that each workshop blends tactile woodworking skills with artistic design, giving children a tangible sense of accomplishment and a personalized piece of decor that lasts.
