Board & Brush Creative Studio – Galena

Board & Brush Creative Studio – Galena is a hands-on DIY wood sign and craft workshop studio located at 310 North Main Street along the historic Main Street district of Galena, Illinois. Housed on the ground level of a classic brick building in one of northwestern Illinois’s most picturesque family travel and community destinations, the Galena studio provides local Jo Daviess County residents and visiting families alike with an engaging, instructor-led creative experience. Inside, guests find spacious wooden workbenches, canvas aprons, distressing hammers, sanding blocks, and a vibrant wall display of completed wood signs, serving trays, boxes, and seasonal home decor pieces.

The Galena studio welcomes young artists ages 6 and up through its Family Friendly workshops, Mini Project sessions, Kids’ Parties, and Teen DIY gatherings. During a youth or family workshop, instructors teach participants how to transform raw, unfinished pine boards into custom-crafted artwork from start to finish. Children learn real, age-appropriate woodworking and finishing techniques—including distressing the wood for rustic character, sanding surfaces smooth, rubbing on rich wood stains, applying precision vinyl stencils, dry-brushing vibrant acrylic paints, and peeling away the stencil to reveal crisp lettering and graphics. Because the stencil system prevents paint bleed and guides the design, even young beginners produce professional-looking signs they are proud to take home and hang on their walls.

Prior to attending a scheduled session or private party at Board & Brush Galena, caregivers and children browse an expansive online design library featuring hundreds of kid-approved templates, ranging from sports emblems, horses, wildlife, and gaming motifs to personalized name plaques, holiday decorations, and family monograms. Every participant in a family group or birthday party can make a completely different project while sitting together at the same communal table, as the studio custom-cuts each guest’s stencil ahead of arrival.

In addition to in-studio workshops and private birthday celebrations, Board & Brush Galena offers pre-packaged DIY @Home Kits complete with raw wood, custom stencils, stain, paint pods, foam brushes, sandpaper, and step-by-step instructions for rainy-day family crafting, as well as Premade & Custom Order signs crafted by the studio team. Whether families are celebrating a child’s birthday, hosting a scout troop outing, or looking for an interactive creative activity along historic Main Street, the Galena studio delivers a welcoming, mess-free artistic adventure. Every workstation is stocked with child-safe water-based acrylic paints, foam brushes, aprons, and sanding sponges, and instructors remain close by to assist younger participants with stencil alignment and detail work. Caregivers appreciate that each workshop blends tactile woodworking skills with artistic design, giving children a tangible sense of accomplishment and a personalized piece of decor that lasts.
