Profile
Kumon Math and Reading Center of Glenview – East is a dedicated after-school math and reading learning center located at 1208 North Waukegan Road in Glenview, Illinois. Directed by certified Kumon Instructor Hiro Sagisaka, the center welcomes children and teens ages 3 through 18 from Glenview, Golf, Morton Grove, Wilmette, Winnetka, and Northfield. Situated along the Waukegan Road commercial corridor just north of Glenview Road and near Jackman Park and the Glenview Metra station with convenient on-site parking, the center offers a calm, focused study environment where students develop academic mastery, concentration, and independent problem-solving skills.
At Kumon of Glenview – East, learning is tailored to each child’s individual ability rather than dictated by chronological age or school grade level. Every new student completes a one-on-one diagnostic placement test that evaluates both their current academic knowledge and their study skills, such as focus, speed, and handwriting stamina. Instructor Hiro Sagisaka reviews these assessment results directly with parents and designs a customized study projection that builds confidence through small, incremental worksheet stepsโensuring students master each foundational concept thoroughly before moving on to the next level.
The Kumon Math Program guides students sequentially from early counting, number recognition, and single-digit addition through multiplication, long division, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, functions, and high school calculus. The Kumon Reading Program takes students from early phonics, letter-sound correspondence, and simple sentence building through advanced grammar, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, summarization, and critical analysis of literature. Students have the option to study using traditional printed worksheet packets or through Kumon Connect, a digital tablet-based learning platform that allows Instructor Hiro Sagisaka to monitor daily progress, review problem-solving steps, and provide feedback between classroom visits.
Enrolled students attend the Waukegan Road center twice a week for supervised classroom sessions and complete short daily assignments at home on the remaining days of the week. By working through worksheet examples and solving problems independently before asking for hints, children learn that mistakes are a natural part of growth and develop the resilience, time management, and self-motivation needed for long-term academic success across all school subjects. Regular parent-instructor conferences keep caregivers informed of worksheet milestones, level completions, and study habit improvements, ensuring a collaborative partnership between the learning center and home. Because the worksheet curriculum advances in carefully calibrated increments, students learn to read instructions carefully, study worked examples on their own, and take genuine ownership of their academic growth. Whether a child is preparing for their first day of kindergarten or tackling advanced high school coursework, the center provides a steady, encouraging framework for lifelong learning. Families can schedule an initial orientation and placement session online or by phone to tour the classroom, review sample worksheet levels, and discuss their child’s long-term academic goals with the instructor.
