Sokol USA Chicago is a Slovak educational, cultural, and physical fitness organization specializing in gymnastics classes for the community. Located in Chicago’s North Mayfair neighborhood at 4855 N. Elston Ave., the organization operates out of the Sokol Community Center, which has been at its current location since it was erected in 1962. Sokol USA Lodge 306 Chicago was formed in 1947 when many other Sokols combined forces and members to create one large new lodge.
The organization has a proud tradition of success, having seen thousands of young people and adults come through their doors to participate in physical fitness programs. They offer gymnastics classes and other physical fitness activities for both children and adults, with programs available for all ages. Their experienced staff is trained through Sokol Instructors Training Schools and various clinics, with certifications from AAU, SafeSport, and Positive Coaching Alliance, plus first-aid/CPR/concussion certification.
The Sokol Community Center is a multi-purpose facility with large halls upstairs and downstairs available for rental. The building houses the Lodge 306 Museum and Library, donated by the Dr. George and Ann Matula family and added to the building in 1968. The museum contains thousands of volumes on Czech/Slovak history, culture, and literature, along with many volumes on Sokol History and American classics. Museum exhibits honor Sokol Lodge 306 history, Slovak Heroes of the Past, and the History of the Sokol Slet.
The organization’s motto is ‘Fitness for All Ages,’ emphasizing their commitment to providing physical fitness opportunities for community members regardless of age.
