Profile
Bollywood & Culture Groove is a Chicago-based Indian dance, education, and publishing company dedicated to spreading the joy of Indian culture throughout Chicago and nationwide. Founded by award-winning author and educator Ajanta Chakraborty, the organization offers a unique combination of Indian culture, history, dance, folk art, Hindi language, and more through their Incredible India Adventure classes for children ages 3 and up.
The signature kids classes go far beyond traditional Bollywood dance instruction, offering an immersive cultural adventure that explores India through captivating dances, folk art, plays, Hindi language lessons, festivals, architecture, and food. Each session focuses on a specific region of India, teaching students dances inspired by that area while learning stories about the lives of people from there. Students explore the fascinating folk art traditions from each region, with centuries-old practices that turn storytelling into breathtaking works of art. Hindi words and phrases are taught in connection with each theme, creating a more meaningful learning experience.
Classes are held at two Chicago locations: West Loop and North Center, with multiple age groups served including 3-5 years, 6-8 years, and 9-16 years. The organization has received over 265 five-star reviews from families who appreciate the unique educational and cultural experience. Free trial classes are available for new clients at both locations.
Tuition includes a mini-recital where students perform in authentic Indian outfits, all craft supplies for the session’s folk art projects, and a copy of the bestselling Maya & Neel Vaisakhi book. An annual recital in June brings together all students for a full day of performances, celebrating the raising of multicultural kids in a supportive community environment.
Beyond regular classes, Bollywood Groove offers educational workshops and assemblies for schools and libraries, both in-person and virtually. Popular programs include sessions on Diwali, Holi, and Rhythmic Exploration of India, combining cultural stories, vivid visuals, engaging facts, and fun dances. The organization also provides BollyGroove Kids Birthday Party experiences, bringing Bollywood-style celebration and dance to birthday celebrations.
Founder Ajanta Chakraborty co-authored the Maya & Neel’s India Adventure children’s book series, which has won multiple awards including the International Purple Dragonfly Book Award and International Impact Book Award. The 16-title series is available nationwide. Ajanta’s work has been featured on NBC, ABC, FOX, Elle Magazine, Sun-Times, Univision, and Al Jazeera. She holds a Master’s in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia and a Senior Diploma in Bharatanatyam from Prayag Sangeet Samiti.
Bollywood Groove maintains a free national community group with over 4,400 families, offering free Zoom workshops throughout the year featuring stories, dances, crafts, and resources for raising multicultural kids. The organization travels everywhere while being based in Chicago, bringing Indian culture and education to communities across the country.
