Profile
My Amazing Minds is an educational enrichment program established in 2001, serving elementary school-age children throughout the North Shore area of Illinois. The program offers a comprehensive after-school curriculum designed to encourage intellectual, creative, and social growth through hands-on learning experiences. Classes meet once weekly for 60-minute sessions with a maximum student-to-teacher ratio of 12:1.
The program features 19 interactive themed topics that expand children’s knowledge of the world while reinforcing academic skills taught in elementary school. Topics include explorations of different continents (Australia, Africa, Asia, Europe), ancient civilizations (Egypt, Rome, Greece), natural sciences (rocks and minerals, weather, oceanography), geography, and cultural studies. Each class incorporates multiple academic areas including math, science, reading, geography, and creative arts.
The Amazing Minds approach emphasizes “learning by doing” with activities that include hands-on experiments, crafts, games, treasure hunts, and creative projects. The curriculum is completely screen-free, focusing on tactile and experiential learning. Students might handle artifacts, create art projects, participate in relay races, or conduct scientific experiments related to the week’s theme.
The program operates in partnership with various school districts including Northbrook School District 28, Highland Park, Deerfield, Glenview, and Buffalo Grove. Amazing Minds offers classes at multiple locations including park districts and schools throughout the area. Summer programming and birthday party options are available. The program welcomes all types of learners in a judgment-free environment where students can explore topics often not covered during regular school hours. Parent testimonials consistently highlight children’s enthusiasm for the program and the valuable knowledge gained through participation.
