Profile
Elmhurst Art Museum is a dynamic cultural center dedicated to providing enriching experiences through art, education, and architecture. The museum features rotating contemporary art exhibitions showcasing works by regional, national, and international artists, offering visitors exposure to late 20th century American art alongside emerging and mid-career Chicago artists.
The museum’s award-winning facility includes dramatic glass entrance galleries, three exhibition spaces, an educational pavilion, and the architecturally significant McCormick House designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. This rare single-family home prototype from 1952 is open for guided tours, allowing visitors to explore its revolutionary design.
The Education Center offers comprehensive programming including hands-on art camps for children ages 5-12. Full-day camps run from 9am-3pm for ages 5-12, while half-day options (9-11:30am or 12:30-3pm) are available for ages 5-7. Camp activities include painting, printmaking, drawing, mosaics, collage, and ceramic work through pinch pots. Each camp session incorporates gallery tours of current exhibitions, providing children with exposure to professional artworks while developing their own creative skills.
Visitors enjoy public tours, guest lectures, and classes in a welcoming atmosphere. The museum is fully ADA accessible with wheelchairs available upon request. Free admission is offered to members, students, and those 18 and under, making art education accessible to the broader community. The facility’s location in Wilder Park provides excellent outdoor spaces for families to enjoy.
