Madison Street Books is a proudly woman-owned independent bookstore located in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, housed in a historic building at 1127 W Madison Street. This thoughtfully curated general interest bookstore features a robust fiction section, broad selection of non-fiction, and a dedicated children’s corner with a mural from illustrator Diana Sudyka. The children’s section aims to serve diverse families in the growing neighborhood, ensuring any child can find books with covers featuring faces and people like them.
The 1,500-square-foot bright and organized space provides a welcoming environment for book lovers of all ages. The dedicated staff work to make Madison Street Books an inclusive and community-minded space focused on literacy and love of reading. The store hosts several monthly book clubs, weekly story times and music hours for children, and unique author events. Children’s programming includes pajama story hours and toddler jam hours designed to engage young readers.
Madison Street Books serves as an active member of the West Loop community, partnering with Madison Row, the West Central Association, and the West Loop Chamber of Commerce. They work with neighborhood schools on fundraisers and special events. The bookstore opened in March 2020 and has become a cherished neighborhood gathering place.
