Profile
Marsha’s Music brings the joy of family music-making to children ages 0-8 and the adults who love them through the Music Together program. Founded in 2001 by Marsha Melsheimer, a preschool teacher with classical music training and passion for early childhood education, the program has served the Chicago community for over 22 years with locations in Hyde Park, Lincoln Park, and Wicker Park.
Each 45-minute Music Together class offers a dozen songs and rhythmic chants including small and large movement activities and instrument play. Children participate at their own developmental level through singing, moving, chanting, listening, observing, or exploring musical instruments in an informal, non-performance-oriented environment that is developmentally appropriate. High-quality trained teachers present fun musical experiences that support children’s musical development as they grow.
The program welcomes the whole family to participate in this family music experience, with any caregivers including parents, grandparents, and nannies able to bring children to class. Discounted rates are available for siblings, with third siblings and siblings 0-8 months attending free. Each family receives the illustrated songbook, CD, digital download, and invites to community events including free Fam Jam parties each session. The curriculum uses folk and traditional music emphasizing interaction between parent and child.
Music Together Rhythm Kids program continues the fun and learning for children ages 5-8. Marsha’s Music also provides the Music Together curriculum to preschools, daycares, and after-school programs throughout the Chicago area. Currently classes are held in-person at Hyde Park locations including St. Paul & the Redeemer (4945 S Dorchester Ave) and Congregation Rodfei Zedek (5200 S Hyde Park Blvd). Ukulele group classes are also offered.
