Profile
First Ascent Climbing and Fitness operates multiple indoor rock climbing facilities in Chicago, offering comprehensive youth programs including their popular Summer Climbing Camp. The camp provides an adventurous experience for children in grades 1-8, challenging them to reach new heights while building physical strength, problem-solving skills, and self-confidence.
Summer camps run Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 3:30pm during Chicago Public Schools’ summer break, with 8 weeks of programming available. An extended day option is available at the Avondale location only, offering 7:30am drop-off and 6:00pm pickup for an additional fee.
Camps are split into two age groups: Grades 1-4 and Grades 5-8, maintaining a 6:1 student-to-instructor ratio for optimal supervision and instruction. Activities include all-day climbing with instruction in basic safety, movement techniques, and knot tying, with an optional introduction to belaying for older campers. The facility features a zipline, adding extra excitement to the climbing experience.
Experienced counselors create a welcoming environment designed for climbers of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced. All climbing gear including harnesses and shoes is provided. Students must bring their own snacks and lunch daily. Large and small group activities are incorporated throughout each week.
Camps are available at both Avondale and Uptown locations. The program is designed to build confidence, resilience, and friendships in a safe, supervised environment. First Ascent’s seasoned staff are trained in first aid and CPR, ensuring the highest safety standards. Members receive discounted rates compared to guest pricing.
