Profile
Girls Rugby Chicago is part of the national Girls Rugby Inc. organization, offering non-contact flag rugby programs for girls in grades 2-8 throughout the Chicago area. The program focuses on teaching positive core values and life skills through the sport of rugby while emphasizing fun, inclusion, and personal development. Flag rugby substitutes traditional tackles with flag pulls, making it an accessible and safe introduction to rugby for players of all experience levels.
The organization operates seasonal leagues running for 7 weeks with one practice day and one game day each week. Teams practice for 75 minutes on weeknight evenings and play games on weekend days at designated field locations. The program divides participants into age groups (grades 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8) to ensure developmentally appropriate competition and skill-building. Athletes learn new skills each week through structured coaching that they then apply during game play.
Girls Rugby Chicago maintains multiple team locations including Jefferson Park and Skokie to serve families across the greater Chicago area. The Jefferson Park team practices at 4822 N Long Ave on Wednesday evenings, providing convenient access for North Side families. Each season concludes with a special Girls Rugby Family Day where all family members are invited to participate in activities and celebrate the season’s accomplishments together.
Registration costs include 7 weeks of programming led by qualified Girls Rugby staff, access to experienced coaches and referees, Girls Rugby membership, liability insurance, and a copy of the Rugby Playbook. New players receive a complete uniform package including home and away jerseys, shorts, socks, and a Girls Rugby ball. Returning players can opt to purchase additional gear if desired. Early bird registration discounts are available for families who sign up before specified deadlines.
The organization is committed to making rugby accessible to all girls through scholarship opportunities and financial assistance programs. Girls Rugby partners with outside organizations to provide support for families who need help with program costs. The national organization operates programs across multiple states, bringing the benefits of rugby to thousands of girls and building a supportive community focused on empowerment, teamwork, and athletic development.
