Hyun’s Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do School

Hyun’s Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do School is a premier martial arts training facility that has been serving the Chicago community for 45 years, recognized as one of the top 10 self-defense schools in the United States. Founded and led by Grand Master Kwang Seek Hyun, who holds the highest rank possible – 10th Dan Black Belt – the school provides world-class martial arts instruction for men, women, teens, and children.

The school operates two convenient locations: the Northside school at Western and Diversey (recently renovated) and the Southside school. Both facilities offer comprehensive programs in Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do, with instruction tailored to different age groups and skill levels. The Kids program serves ages 5-10, teaching fundamental martial arts skills along with important life values including courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit through the Tenets of Tae Kwon Do.

For ages 11 and up, the Hapkido program provides advanced self-defense training incorporating kicks, punches, throws, joint locks, submission techniques, and pressure point manipulation. The training focuses on attacking the weakest parts of an opponent’s body and teaches practical self-defense skills that work in real-world situations. Beyond self-defense techniques, students develop increased fitness, flexibility, and stamina.

The school is led by highly experienced instructors including Master Ky Jacoby (5th Degree Black Belt) and Master Choi, who brings 10 years of experience teaching children in Korea. The newly renovated Northside facility provides a modern, clean training environment with professional-grade equipment and ample training space.

Hyun’s offers private lessons for personalized instruction, and can bring their programs to schools, community centers, and other organizations. Students learn discipline, respect, confidence, focus, and concentration through organized group activities and individualized attention.
