The Music Institute of Chicago (MIC) is a premier nonprofit community music school founded in 1931, serving the Chicagoland area through six convenient locations in Chicago, Evanston, Winnetka, Lake Forest, and Downers Grove. MIC connects people to music through exceptional teaching, performances, and community service initiatives.
Private music lessons are available for over 40 instruments including strings, piano, woodwinds, brass, voice, guitar, percussion, and harp. Highly qualified teachers provide individualized instruction for students from beginners to advanced levels, with flexible scheduling across all campus locations.
The Suzuki Education program offers a comprehensive approach to music learning for young students, including group repertoire classes, workshops, and the renowned Chicago Suzuki Instituteโa week-long summer intensive program.
The Academy is a nationally recognized conservatory-level program for highly gifted pre-college string players and pianists aspiring to professional careers. Academy students receive intensive private instruction, chamber music coaching, music theory and history, keyboard skills training, and performance opportunities.
Musikgarten early childhood classes serve children from birth through age 7, offering developmentally appropriate music and movement activities that support cognitive, emotional, and social development. Classes include Family Music for Babies, Toddlers, Cycle of Seasons, and Music Makers programs.
Chamber music programs pair students of all ages into carefully matched ensembles with regular coachings and performance opportunities at Nichols Concert Hall. Jazz studies, roots and rock programs, and adult education classes including the Music Institute Chorale are also offered.
Special programs include the Chicago Duo Piano Festival, summer camps and classes, and extensive community outreach initiatives. MIC operates Nichols Concert Hall, a stunning 550-seat venue hosting world-class concerts and events. Financial aid, merit scholarships, and flexible payment plans ensure accessibility for all students.
