New Music School is an elite music conservatory-style program located on Level 6 of 900 North Michigan Avenue in Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. The school provides intensive, high-caliber music instruction with a comprehensive five-level curriculum designed to train, develop, and manage young artists. The program is mentored by Chicago Symphony Orchestra musicians, renowned collegiate professors, and world-class faculty members.
The curriculum structure ranges from Level 1 (House of Bach) for beginners, through Levels 2-3 (House of Mozart/Beethoven) for college preparatory students, Level 4 (House of Ravel) meeting undergraduate school expectations, to Level 5 (House of Glass) providing graduate school level training with artist development and management. The school offers private lessons combined with mandatory chamber music, theory/ear training, performance classes, and masterclasses.
Departments include piano, strings (violin, viola, cello, guitar), voice, and flute, with instruction available for all ages including early childhood programs and adult students. The school hosts regular artist residencies featuring internationally recognized concert pianists and musicians who provide masterclasses and private coaching. Recent artist residents have included concert pianists Steven Osborne, Alan Chow, and Chicago Symphony Orchestra musicians.
New Music School students participate in numerous performance opportunities including departmental recitals, showcase recitals, faculty chamber music concerts, and solo recitals. Many students have won prestigious competitions and earned college scholarships to major conservatories.
