Shedd Aquarium, one of Chicago’s most beloved cultural institutions located at 1200 South Lake Shore Drive on the scenic Museum Campus, offers exceptional educational camp programs that immerse children in the fascinating world of aquatic life. The aquarium’s camp offerings provide hands-on learning experiences that combine marine science education with fun, engaging activities designed to spark curiosity and foster conservation awareness.
Camp Shedd: Summer Splash serves students entering grades K-5, offering week-long sessions throughout the summer months. Each day runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with drop-off between 8:30-9:00 AM and pick-up from 3:00-3:30 PM at the bus turnaround on the south side of Shedd Aquarium. Campers explore the exciting world of aquatic animals, uncovering amazing adaptations and breathtaking behaviors through up-close animal encounters, habitat exploration, hands-on learning activities, outdoor games, crafts, and more.
Camp Shedd: Summer Road Trip offers a different experience for older students entering grades 6-8. This adventure-based program uses the aquarium as home base while setting out on daily excursions to explore the wonders of the Great Lakes and local aquatic ecosystems. Outdoor activities and environmental investigations at various Chicagoland locations spark compassion, curiosity, and conservation awareness. The week culminates in an overnight stay at the aquarium, creating an unforgettable experience for participants.
Beyond summer programming, Shedd offers Camp Shedd: School’s Out on CPS non-attendance days throughout the academic year, providing full-day educational programming from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM with complimentary aftercare until 5:00 PM. These day camps serve students in grades K-5 with hands-on activities, animal encounters, and aquarium exploration.
All Shedd camp programs emphasize scientific observation, critical thinking, and environmental stewardship.
