Profile
Dancenter North is a premier school for the performing arts offering classical training, strong technique, and performance artistry created for today’s dancers. After 45 historic years in Libertyville, DCN relocated in 2019 to its current home in Gurnee under the direction and ownership of Stacy Joy Keller and Geno Kett. Carrying on rich tradition including the annual production of “The Magic of the Nutcracker,” DCN has become a home away from home for countless students in the northern suburbs.
The studio provides a nurturing, body-positive, and healthy environment in which to train properly, ensuring that students learn and develop in the most correct manner whether studying recreationally or pursuing a career in dance. Dancenter North is recognized as the premier studio in the north Chicago suburbs for the serious dancer.
Early Childhood Dance classes serve children ages 2-5, focusing on confidence, having fun, and engaging in a positive learning environment while learning how to move in their bodies. Entry Level classes introduce the foundation of dance to beginning students with no experience needed, providing opportunities for dancers of any age to get started with a new passion. Adult Classes are available for all fitness and experience levels with registration, punch card, and drop-in options designed to fit busy schedules.
Students ages 7-18 with previous experience are invited for complimentary placement classes before starting on a training track at Dancenter North. Professional Track programs are available for career-minded high school students at the highest level of training, with acceptance through application and interview. The studio offers classes in ballet, pointe, contemporary, modern, jazz, tap, and specialty classes including Strength & Flexibility with Melissa Reh and Improv Dance with Franny Komperda.
The Magic of the Nutcracker is Dancenter North’s largest and most lavish production in Lake County, now in its 36th season. Featuring over 100 performers, elaborate sets, graceful dancers, and Tchaikovsky’s beautiful score, performances are held at Libertyville High School in December with shows including “Clara’s Dream,” “Clara’s Special Party,” and full-length productions, as well as evening performances at the Genesee Theatre. Girl Scout Troops can earn dance or live theatre badges by attending performances, with group tickets and backstage tours available.
