Citadel Theatre

Citadel Theatre is a professional non-profit theatre company located in Lake Forest, Illinois, committed to producing exciting, compelling, emotionally and intellectually rich work of the highest caliber. The theatre brings together gifted professionals from all theatrical disciplines including passionate, visionary directors, writers, actors, and designers dedicated to maintaining the highest standard of professionalism.

The theatre offers a diverse season of productions running from September to May, featuring dramas, comedies, musicals, family shows, Christmas and holiday performances, cutting-edge new works, and both contemporary and classical selections. The theatre is located in a 150-seat performance space that provides excellent views for the entire audience at the corner of Route 60 and Waukegan Road in Lake Forest.

Citadel Theatre Education provides comprehensive theatre classes and programs for students ranging from age 3 through 18 years old. The education program is committed to teaching basic to advanced skills for young actors through working on productions throughout the year. Their approach helps guide students not only to work on their craft but also assists them with basic everyday life skills including self-confidence, public speaking, social support, study skills, and problem-solving abilities.

Students are taught and given time to prepare to audition for roles during their first class of the session. After auditioning, students are assigned roles by their directors and become part of an ensemble for their shows, rehearsing and preparing for final performances. The theatre offers Winter, Spring, and Summer sessions for children and youth, providing some of the best acting classes in Lake County. Theatre for Young Audiences productions are also featured as part of the season, making professional theatre accessible to younger patrons. Citadel also offers season subscriptions, gift certificates, and opportunities for community members to get involved through donations and sponsorships.
