Improv Playhouse

Improv Playhouse is a youth community theater and training center located in Libertyville, Illinois, specializing in theatrical arts education for children and teens. The organization offers comprehensive programming in improv comedy, musical theater, plays, stand-up comedy, filmmaking, and on-camera acting. All productions and subject matter are carefully adjusted to be age-appropriate, with a strong focus on maintaining the personal integrity of young performers.

The theater provides classes and productions for students in grades 1-12, with programs divided by age and skill level. Improv classes teach students the fundamentals of improvisational theater, including character development, spontaneity, giving and taking focus, and ensemble building. Musical theater productions range from junior shows for younger students to full-scale productions for teens, with offerings like Broadway Bound for grades 1-3, Showstoppers for grades 4-8, and IP Elite for grades 7-12.

Improv Playhouse partners with Kindermusik Northshore to offer parent-and-me music classes for children from infancy through 2nd grade. The organization maintains strict anti-bullying policies and creates a nurturing professional theater experience from auditions through public performances. Young Actors Workshop programs and seasonal camps provide additional opportunities for students to develop their theatrical skills in comedies, dramas, and developmentally appropriate productions.
