The Language and Music School, established in 1994 and housed in the historic International Mansion of Oak Park, provides comprehensive private lessons in music, foreign languages, academic tutoring, and operates a K-12 Spanish immersion microschool. The organization’s mission is to inspire learning in the young and young-at-heart by providing a tailored educational experience that meets each student’s needs, interests, and strengths, empowering them to reach their full potential.
The school offers an extensive range of language instruction including Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, and Latin, taught by native speakers and expert educators. Music programs encompass instruction in piano, guitar, voice, ukulele, violin, cello, upright bass, drums, brass instruments, woodwinds, accordion, mandolin, bagpipes, and more. Academic tutoring covers mathematics, science, literature, geography, and test preparation.
The Language and Music School utilizes the proprietary LMS Method developed by founder Maria Emilia Fermi, combining music therapy principles with ongoing studies in child development and developmental disorders. The faculty of experienced educators provides individualized instruction in a unique, inspiring environment within the International Mansion. The K-12 microschool program offers Spanish immersion education in a homeschool-style setting with flexible scheduling. Additional offerings include visual arts, karate, musical theater, and specialty programs. The school serves students from infancy through adulthood, creating a multigenerational learning community that has been celebrating excellence in education for over 30 years.
