Northlight Theatre is a professional non-profit theater company located in Skokie, Illinois. The theatre produces five mainstage productions each year with a spectrum of work ranging from timely world premieres to refreshed classics. Founded in 1974, Northlight Theatre aspires to promote change of perspective and encourage compassion by exploring the depth of humanity across a bold spectrum of theatrical experiences. The theatre seeks to entertain, enlighten, and electrify audiences through contemporary dramas, intimate musicals and refreshed classics.
The theatre is fearless in its commitment to champion new work and provide a nurturing and creative home for artists. With seating for 350 patrons, Northlight is among the largest and most respected theaters in the Chicago area, serving audiences totaling over 50,000 each season with more than 6,000 subscribers. The theatre reflects the community to the world and the world to the community through its productions, business practices, outreach, and education programs.
Northlight offers student matinees, post-show discussions, education programs, and special events including the Savor Evanston series and Backstage With BJ. The theatre also provides opportunities for young people through the Northlight Youth Council and community partnerships. After nearly 30 years at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie, Northlight will open its own home in downtown Evanston in September 2026.
