Profile
Garwood Orchard & Farm Market is a historic family farm that has been in operation since 1831, representing nearly two centuries of family farming tradition in LaPorte, Indiana. This 300-acre true commercial farm offers visitors an authentic agricultural experience.
The farm specializes in u-pick apples with over 30 varieties grown on the property, including their featured EverCrisp apples. Visitors can enjoy picking their own apples during the harvest season, with horse-drawn and tractor-drawn wagon rides that transport guests from the market to the picking areas on weekdays, and direct access from the Garwood UPick Farm on weekends. There is no fee for parking or wagon rides.
The Farm Market features fresh produce, bakery items, and a selection of farm-fresh products available for purchase. School tours are a specialty at Garwood, offering children a unique opportunity to experience what farming is really like on a true commercial farm. Tours run from mid-September through mid-October and must be scheduled in advance (scheduling closes in August each year).
Garwood Orchard practices sustainable growing methods and takes pride in how they grow their fruit. The farm is open daily from 5pm to 8pm during the u-pick season, which typically runs from May through October. Customers are encouraged to call ahead at (219) 362-4385 for current picking information and to confirm what varieties are in season, as exact ripening dates can vary.
The orchard maintains traditional farming values while providing a welcoming environment for families to learn about agriculture and enjoy fresh, locally-grown apples. Online shopping is available through their partnership with Mercato for farm-fresh products year-round.
