If you’re looking for a creative, enriching, and genuinely fun way for your child to spend a day off from school — or an entire summer — Abbey Ryan Art Studio has you covered. Their School’s Out Art Camps and Summer Art Camp are thoughtfully designed programs that go well beyond simple arts and crafts, giving kids a real introduction to artistic thinking, materials, and self-expression.
The camps are open to children ages 4 and up, making them a great fit for younger kids just beginning to explore creativity as well as older, more experienced little artists. The mixed-age, welcoming environment encourages kids to learn from each other as much as from the instructor.
The day is carefully structured to keep kids engaged without feeling rigid. It begins with a group discussion about the concept or theme of the day — a lovely touch that gets children thinking critically and talking about art before they even pick up a brush. From there, the group dives into hands-on project work using a variety of materials, with an emphasis on exploring new mediums and building fine motor skills and technique.
Once projects are complete, the day wraps up with a “Show & Share,” where each child presents their work to the group and peers share what they appreciate about it. This is a wonderful, confidence-building moment that teaches kids how to articulate their ideas and genuinely celebrate one another’s creativity.
For parents who need coverage for a longer stretch of the day, the full-day option (9am–3pm) includes lunch and outdoor play at a nearby local park, giving kids a chance to burn off some energy mid-day. The afternoon session also includes a fun bonus activity — think slime-making, jewelry crafting, and similar hands-on extras — so the day stays fresh and exciting from start to finish.
Scheduling Flexibility The half-day option runs from 9am to 12pm, while the full day extends to 3pm.
Extended day options are also available for Summer Camp 2026 (running June 1st through September 8th, Monday–Friday). Spring Break camps are offered as well. If you need a specific school day off that isn’t listed on their registration page, the studio welcomes you to reach out directly via email to request a date — a helpful, personal touch for busy families trying to plan ahead.
What sets Abbey Ryan Art Studio apart is its clear commitment to creative independence. Rather than following a paint-by-numbers approach, the curriculum encourages kids to take what they’ve learned in the day’s discussion and apply it in their own way. The result is that every child walks away with something that feels authentically theirs — and a little more confidence in their own artistic voice.
Registration is handled through SignUpGenius, and spots are available on a rolling basis. Given the intimate, small-group feel of the studio, it’s worth signing up early to secure your preferred dates.
