Profile
Steve & Kate’s Camp – Evanston is a summer day camp operating out of Beacon Academy in Evanston, Illinois, providing a child-directed camp experience for kids ages 4 through 12. This suburban location brings Steve & Kate’s nationally recognized self-directed philosophy to families on Chicago’s North Shore, offering the same flexible enrollment and comprehensive activity programming found at the brand’s urban locations.
Campers at the Evanston site choose their own activities throughout the day, with access to the full Steve & Kate’s activity suite. The Media Lab provides tools for stop-motion animation, coding, digital content creation, and other technology projects. Creative arts are well represented through the Sewing Salon and Bakery, where children engage in hands-on fashion design and culinary projects respectively. Sports, recreation, and water games provide physical activity and outdoor enjoyment. The location features dedicated support staff for youngest campers, helping children ages 4-5 ease into the camp experience and discover their confidence in a new environment.
The Evanston location runs from mid-June through early August, with a slightly later start date than some Chicago locations. Enrollment is through Steve & Kate’s flexible Day Pass system, where families purchase passes and use them on any open camp day without advance notice. A Summer Pass covers the entire season. All fees include lunch, snacks, and the full camp day from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Unused passes are automatically refunded by mid-September. An end-of-summer celebration on the final day replaces regular activities with carnival games, extra treats, and prize opportunities. Bright Horizons Back-Up Care benefits are accepted, and financial aid is available.
