Profile
Wiz Kids Camps is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and premier summer day camp program that has been serving the Chicagoland community since its founding in 2009. What began as a small gathering of 14 curious minds has grown into a thriving community welcoming over 400 young learners each summer across multiple campuses. The Flossmoor location holds the distinction of being the flagship campus, hosted at the state-of-the-art Homewood-Flossmoor High School at 800 Governors Highway. This campus provides campers with access to high-tech classrooms, professional athletic fields, a swimming pool, and specialized maker spaces, all within a safe and supervised environment that prioritizes both learning and fun.
The camp is designed for students entering grades 1 through 8, which corresponds to approximately ages 6 through 14, with programming carefully tailored to each developmental stage. Younger campers in grades 1 and 2 participate in structured morning academic sessions covering reading, math, music, engineering, art, social emotional learning, and Spanish language instruction, then transition to afternoon sports electives that include soccer, tennis, swimming, tumbling, track, and dance. Campers in grades 3 and 4 follow a similar academic morning schedule while gaining access to expanded elective options such as drama, coding, basketball, golf, baseball, and cheerleading. Rising 5th through 8th graders participate in Innovation Labs, which are interdisciplinary modules pairing two related subjects together. These include Culinary Arts paired with Entrepreneurship, Fashion Design paired with Visual Arts, Engineering paired with Coding and Game Design, STEM paired with Media Arts, Creative Writing paired with Drama, Financial Literacy paired with Debate and Public Speaking, Music and Sound Engineering paired with Photography, and Architecture paired with Environmental Science. All academic sessions for younger campers are led by certified Illinois educators.
Camp operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM during the summer season, which typically runs from early June through late July. Extended care is available for families who need it, with morning care from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM and afternoon care from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM at an additional cost of approximately $100 per session for the season. Every Friday is a dedicated Field Trip Day, with all campers traveling to prominent Chicago-area cultural institutions and attractions such as the Shedd Aquarium, Art Institute of Chicago, Brookfield Zoo, Museum of Science and Industry, Children’s Museum, ClimbZone, Pelican Harbor, the SlooMoo Institute, and the Museum of Illusions. Field trips are included in the tuition cost. Tuition is structured on a per-week basis with rates varying by the total number of weeks enrolled, and early bird pricing offers savings for families who register before the deadline. A $50 registration fee applies to all enrollments. Swimming activities carry a small additional fee to support program costs. Sibling discounts are available to make the program more accessible for families with multiple children.
The program maintains a staff-to-camper ratio of approximately 1 to 16, with staff including certified teachers, experienced coaches, and trained junior associates. All staff members undergo thorough background checks and receive specialized training in camp safety and child development. A certified nurse is on-site at all campuses at all times, and the camp follows strict safety protocols including buddy systems, high staff-to-camper ratios during transitions and field trips, and detailed supervision plans. Parents receive regular updates and can contact camp staff at any time. Beyond the core summer program, Wiz Kids also offers specialty programs including Camp University for advanced learners, a Winter Escape trip to Wisconsin, and the Wiz Kids Flight Academy. Wiz Kids is dedicated to creating environments where young people have life-impacting experiences academically, athletically, socially, and emotionally.
