Profile
Kumon Math and Reading Center of Niles – South is an individualized after-school math and reading enrichment facility located at 7942 North Waukegan Road in Niles, Illinois. Directed by certified Kumon Instructor Michelle Bettuzzi, the center serves families across Niles, Morton Grove, Park Ridge, Des Plaines, Skokie, and Chicago’s Norwood Park, Edgebrook, and Edison Park neighborhoods. Conveniently situated along the Waukegan Road retail corridor just north of Oakton Street and near the Niles Family Fitness Center and Grennan Heights Park with easy storefront parking, the center offers a supportive, distraction-free classroom environment for learners ages 3 through high school.
Under the attentive guidance of Instructor Michelle Bettuzzi, the Niles – South center implements the Kumon Method to help students build academic independence, calculation speed, and reading accuracy. Every student’s educational journey starts with a comprehensive diagnostic placement evaluation that identifies their current strengths and any foundational skill gaps in mathematics or reading. Rather than following a rigid grade-level classroom syllabus, Instructor Bettuzzi designs a personalized worksheet sequence that allows each student to master concepts step-by-step and advance at their own optimal pace.
Early childhood learners ages 3 to 5 develop essential school-readiness habits, including fine motor pencil control, number counting, pattern recognition, phonemic awareness, and sight-word recognition. Elementary and middle school students build automaticity in core arithmeticโcovering addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and order of operationsโwhile expanding their vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, and reading comprehension skills. Older students advance into high school algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and critical literary analysis. Students can complete their daily curriculum on traditional paper worksheets or digitally with a stylus using the Kumon Connect tablet application.
Enrolled students visit the Waukegan Road center twice weekly for structured classroom study and complete short daily worksheet packets at home on non-class days. By practicing consistently every day, checking their own work, and learning how to study example problems independently, children develop strong concentration, self-discipline, and a lasting sense of pride in their academic accomplishments. Regular parent-instructor conferences keep caregivers informed of worksheet milestones, level completions, and study habit improvements, ensuring a collaborative partnership between the learning center and home. Because the worksheet curriculum advances in carefully calibrated increments, students learn to read instructions carefully, study worked examples on their own, and take genuine ownership of their academic growth. Whether a child is preparing for their first day of kindergarten or tackling advanced high school coursework, the center provides a steady, encouraging framework for lifelong learning. Families can schedule an initial orientation and placement session online or by phone to tour the classroom, review sample worksheet levels, and discuss their child’s long-term academic goals with the instructor.
