Profile
Wiz Kids Camps is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and premier summer day camp serving the Chicagoland community since 2009. The Chicago West Loop campus is located at the prestigious Whitney M. Young Magnet High School at 1430 West Van Buren Street, providing a dynamic urban setting for summer enrichment in one of Chicago’s most iconic educational institutions. This centrally located campus is ideal for families living and working in the city who want convenient access to a high-quality summer program that seamlessly blends advanced academics, creative arts, and competitive athletics.
The camp serves students entering grades 1 through 8, corresponding to approximately ages 6 through 14, with programming tailored to each age group’s developmental needs. Younger campers in grades 1 through 4 participate in structured morning academic sessions covering subjects including reading, math, engineering, art, social emotional learning, and additional enrichment topics, all led by certified Illinois educators. These morning sessions are designed to keep young minds sharp during the summer months while fostering a love of learning through interactive, hands-on activities. Rising 5th through 8th graders engage in Innovation Labs, which are interdisciplinary modules that combine two related fields for in-depth exploration. Options include Culinary Arts paired with Entrepreneurship, Fashion Design paired with Visual Arts, Engineering paired with Coding and Game Design, STEM paired with Media Arts, Creative Writing paired with Drama, Financial Literacy paired with Debate and Public Speaking, Music and Sound Engineering paired with Photography, and Architecture paired with Environmental Science. All campers also choose electives from a wide range of sports and activities including soccer, tennis, swimming, basketball, track, dance, golf, cheerleading, and more, with each taught by experienced and qualified instructors.
Camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM during the summer season, with extended care options available for families who need earlier drop-off or later pick-up. Every Friday is a dedicated Field Trip Day, with campers traveling to world-class museums, parks, and cultural institutions throughout the Chicago area, including venues such as the Shedd Aquarium, Art Institute of Chicago, Brookfield Zoo, and the Museum of Science and Industry. All field trips are included in tuition. Tuition varies by the number of weeks enrolled, with both early bird and standard pricing tiers available. A registration fee applies, and camp fees include a free t-shirt. The West Loop campus benefits from its proximity to downtown Chicago’s rich array of cultural and educational resources, providing campers with unique urban exploration opportunities that complement the on-campus programming.
Staff at the West Loop campus include certified teachers, experienced coaches, and trained associates, all of whom pass thorough background checks and receive specialized training in camp safety and youth development. The program maintains a low staff-to-camper ratio to ensure individualized attention and support. A certified nurse is on-site, and the camp follows strict safety protocols including buddy systems, detailed supervision plans, and heightened oversight during transitions, field trips, and activities requiring additional safety measures. Parents receive regular updates and can contact camp staff at any time. Wiz Kids emphasizes both intellectual growth and physical fitness, with experienced staff dedicated to ensuring every child feels empowered to try new things and build lifelong friendships. Beyond the core summer camp, Wiz Kids offers specialty programs including Camp University, a Winter Escape trip to Wisconsin, and the Wiz Kids Flight Academy.
