Profile
Tennis On The Lake at Gill Park offers indoor seasonal tennis instruction in Chicago’s East Lakeview neighborhood at 825 West Sheridan Road, located right near the intersection of Sheridan Road and Broadway, just steps from the Sheridan Red Line CTA station and a few blocks west of Lake Michigan. When the outdoor lakefront season at nearby Waveland Park concludes in the autumn, Gill Park serves as a vital North Side indoor hub alongside the downtown Arrive Streeterville facility, allowing Lakeview, Wrigleyville, Lincoln Park, and Uptown families to continue structured tennis lessons indoors during the colder late-autumn, winter, and early-spring months.
Operating within the Chicago Park District’s Gill Park fieldhouse gymnasium facilitiesโwhich also house an indoor swimming pool, community clubrooms, and an adjacent outdoor playgroundโTennis On The Lake brings its signature TOTL training system indoors so youth and adult students can maintain their stroke mechanics, footwork, and match sharpness outside of the summer season. Junior instruction is designed for players ages 5 to 17 across all experience levels and utilizes USTA QuickStart progressionsโincluding modified low-compression red, orange, and green-dot tennis balls and portable netsโwhich are ideally suited to indoor gymnasium court surfaces. Slower-bouncing balls and scaled court boundaries enable young beginners to learn proper forehand, backhand, volley, overhead, and serve technique while enjoying extended rallies and active team games from their very first lesson.
Each class session blends cardio and agility warm-ups, fed-ball technical coaching, and point-play games led by experienced local coaches trained in the TOTL curriculum. Because classes are grouped by age and skill tier, siblings and peers can progress from foundational racquet control and hand-eye coordination to tactical shot placement and rally consistency in a climate-controlled indoor environment completely unaffected by Chicago’s winter wind, rain, or snow.
Consistent with all Tennis On The Lake locations, Gill Park requires no club membership fees or annual commitments. Families register by the multi-week session, qualify for a multi-class discount on each additional class booked within the same session, and can manage schedule adjustments, class transfers, or make-up credits online through their self-service student portal. Single-class drop-in bookings are also available after the opening week of each session for levels above Beginner 1, and private or semi-private coaching can be arranged by phone or email. Caregivers should send participants with a properly sized tennis racquet (or request a complimentary loaner racquet in advance), non-marking athletic court shoes, comfortable indoor sportswear, and a filled water bottle so young athletes stay hydrated and ready for active court movement.
