Profile
Kumon Math and Reading Center of Chicago – Andersonville is a neighborhood after-school math and reading enrichment center located at 5647 North Clark Street, Suite 102, in the heart of Chicago’s vibrant Andersonville and Edgewater community. Positioned on the ground level of a modern brick building along Clark Street just north of Bryn Mawr Avenue, the center is steps away from Andersonville’s independent bookshops, bakeries, cafes, and family amenities, serving students from Andersonville, Edgewater, Uptown, Ravenswood, Lincoln Square, and Bowmanville.
The Andersonville center utilizes the individualized Kumon Method to nurture independent, self-assured learners from age 3 through high school. Every student starts with a one-on-one placement assessment that measures their current academic readiness in mathematics and reading alongside their study focus, handwriting control, and work pace. Based on these diagnostic findings, the certified Kumon Instructor crafts a personalized learning plan that meets the child right where they areโwhether they are building early kindergarten readiness, catching up on core grade-level skills, or studying advanced coursework several levels ahead of their school peers.
Through the Kumon Math Program, students develop strong number sense and rapid mental calculation skills, progressing sequentially from counting, number sequencing, and basic arithmetic through fractions, decimals, ratios, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus. Through the Kumon Reading Program, young learners master phonemic awareness, letter formation, and sight vocabulary before advancing into grammar, sentence structure, reading comprehension, summarization, and critical literary analysis of complex passages. Families have the flexibility to choose traditional paper worksheet packets or the digital Kumon Connect tablet program using a stylus.
Students attend in-center classroom sessions twice a week on Clark Street, where the instructor and trained classroom assistants observe their problem-solving habits, verify mastery, and encourage independent thinking before offering hints. On non-classroom days, students complete brief daily worksheet sets at home, establishing consistent study routines, time-management skills, perseverance, and academic confidence that carry over into every school subject. Regular parent-instructor conferences keep caregivers informed of worksheet milestones, level completions, and study habit improvements, ensuring a collaborative partnership between the learning center and home. Because the worksheet curriculum advances in carefully calibrated increments, students learn to read instructions carefully, study worked examples on their own, and take genuine ownership of their academic growth. Whether a child is preparing for their first day of kindergarten or tackling advanced high school coursework, the center provides a steady, encouraging framework for lifelong learning. Families can schedule an initial orientation and placement session online or by phone to tour the classroom, review sample worksheet levels, and discuss their child’s long-term academic goals with the instructor.
