Profile
Kumon Math and Reading Center of Chicago – Lincoln Devon is an after-school academic enrichment center located at 6316 North Lincoln Avenue on the first floor of a commercial building right across from the Lincoln Village Shopping Center in Chicago’s North Park and West Ridge corridor. Directed by certified Kumon Instructor Sang Lee, the center serves preschool, elementary, middle, and high school students from West Ridge, North Park, Peterson Park, Sauganash, Lincolnwood, and Skokie. Its accessible location along Lincoln Avenue just south of Devon Avenue makes it easy for North Side and near-suburban caregivers to drop off students and run family errands at nearby shops and grocers.
Instructor Sang Lee partners closely with parents and guardians to bring out the full academic potential in each child through the individualized Kumon Method. Rather than relying on one-size-fits-all group lectures, the program begins with a one-on-one diagnostic placement assessment that evaluates the student’s current mastery in math and reading as well as their concentration, handwriting stamina, and problem-solving habits. Instructor Lee then designs a customized worksheet study plan that allows the child to master each foundational skill with accuracy and speed before advancing to the next concept.
In the Kumon Math Program, students progress step-by-step from early number recognition, counting, and single-digit addition through multi-digit arithmetic, long division, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, functions, and calculus. In the Kumon Reading Program, young learners begin with letter sounds, phonemic awareness, and sight words before advancing through grammar, sentence building, paragraph comprehension, summarization, and critical interpretation of literary texts. Students can study using traditional printed worksheet packets or digitally on a compatible tablet with a stylus via the Kumon Connect platform.
Enrolled students attend supervised classroom sessions at the Lincoln Avenue center twice weekly and complete short daily worksheet assignments at home on the other days of the week. By completing daily assignments within a designated structure, checking their own answers, and learning to work through new concepts independently, students build lasting self-confidence, academic discipline, and a genuine sense of achievement in their daily studies. Regular parent-instructor conferences keep caregivers informed of worksheet milestones, level completions, and study habit improvements, ensuring a collaborative partnership between the learning center and home. Because the worksheet curriculum advances in carefully calibrated increments, students learn to read instructions carefully, study worked examples on their own, and take genuine ownership of their academic growth. Whether a child is preparing for their first day of kindergarten or tackling advanced high school coursework, the center provides a steady, encouraging framework for lifelong learning. Families can schedule an initial orientation and placement session online or by phone to tour the classroom, review sample worksheet levels, and discuss their child’s long-term academic goals with the instructor.
