Profile
Kumon Math and Reading Center of Chicago – Roscoe Village is a community after-school math and reading enrichment center located at 2129 West Belmont Avenue, Suite 1W, in Chicago’s Roscoe Village and North Center neighborhood. Situated along the walkable Belmont Avenue business corridor between Damen and Western Avenuesโjust blocks from Hamlin Park, Fellger Park, Jahn Elementary, and Audubon Elementaryโthe center serves families from Roscoe Village, North Center, West Lakeview, St. Ben’s, Avondale, and Logan Square. The street-level classroom offers a calm, welcoming environment where children and teens ages 3 through 18 can focus on building strong academic foundations and study habits.
Following the globally established Kumon Method, the Roscoe Village center empowers students to become independent, self-directed learners through individualized worksheet instruction. Every child begins with a one-on-one academic placement evaluation that assesses their current skill level in math and reading as well as their concentration span, accuracy, and problem-solving approach. The certified Kumon Instructor uses this diagnostic assessment to design a customized study progression tailored to the child’s individual learning pace, ensuring complete mastery of each foundational topic before introducing new challenges.
In the Kumon Math Program, early learners build counting, number sequencing, and fine motor pencil skills before advancing step-by-step through mental addition, subtraction, multiplication, long division, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, functions, and high school calculus. In the Kumon Reading Program, students progress from pre-reading phonics, letter-sound correspondence, sight words, and sentence structure to paragraph comprehension, summarization, and critical analysis of complex literary and informational texts. Students can complete their daily assignments using traditional printed worksheet packets or digitally on a compatible tablet with a stylus through Kumon Connect.
Enrolled students attend supervised classroom sessions twice a week at the Belmont Avenue center and complete short daily worksheet sets at home on the remaining days of the week. This structured daily practice cultivates academic stamina, time management, perseverance, and self-reliance, helping students approach classroom tests and advanced coursework with poise and enthusiasm. Regular parent-instructor conferences keep caregivers informed of worksheet milestones, level completions, and study habit improvements, ensuring a collaborative partnership between the learning center and home. Because the worksheet curriculum advances in carefully calibrated increments, students learn to read instructions carefully, study worked examples on their own, and take genuine ownership of their academic growth. Whether a child is preparing for their first day of kindergarten or tackling advanced high school coursework, the center provides a steady, encouraging framework for lifelong learning. Families can schedule an initial orientation and placement session online or by phone to tour the classroom, review sample worksheet levels, and discuss their child’s long-term academic goals with the instructor.
